[Confed Cup] South Africa 2-0 New Zealand
Group A - Matchday 2
SOUTH AFRICA 2-0 NEW ZEALAND
Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg
South Africa dumped New Zealand out of the FIFA Confederations Cup after securing a 2-0 win. The hosts were held to a lacklustre 0-0 draw by Iraq in their opening contest on Sunday, but made amends with a convincing display in Rustenburg. They were rarely tested by New Zealand throughout the contest and took the spoils courtesy of a brace from the lively Bernard Parker. South Africa now need a point from their final Group A clash against Spain on Saturday to guarantee their progress into the semi-finals.
South Africa: Khune, Gaxa, Masilela, Mokoena, Sibaya, Pienaar, Modise, Dikgacoi, Booth, Parker (Tshabalala 81), Fanteni (Mashego 61).
New Zealand: Moss, Lochhead, Vicelich, Elliott, Brown (Oughton 55), Smeltz, Killen (Wood 74), Bertos (James 66), Christie, Mulligan, Boyens.
